Firstly Hello as another ejected SOC forum member who was too "fussy".
My Stag runs very well and with 2 minor problems has done so for the 6 years of my ownership. However I have always had one problem that spoils its use. In hot weather currently 35 deg here but down to perhaps 25 ish days my Stag runs OK with the temp gauge never going over half way.
If I stop for say 15 mins the car starts again easily and will dependent on ambient mostly start OK after 30 mins but after 45 mins it will not start. Dependent on ambient it will start easily after another 30 -45 mins.
I decided to do some investigation and trials. I found that on conclusion of a 10 mile run on a hot (30 deg) day the carburettor float chamber temperatures were about 40 deg. (Contact and infra red thermometers used). After 15 mins this had risen to 50 deg and at 30 mins 65 deg... but after 45 mins 75 deg!
A google search shows that at 75deg E5 boils I assume creating a vapour trap in the floats so thus no start.
In order to prove this I bought a can of "Freezospray" or suchlike. On a recent hot day 33 deg I repeated the exercise and at 45 mins the car would not start. After 2 mins spraying the float chambers with this product their temperature had dropped to 55 deg and the car started after only 2 turns.
Others on here live in warmer climes and apparently do not experience this carb overheating.
I have in discussion with other local Stag owners however been told that on a run with some 60+ Stags on a hot day in Switzerland that after a 45 min coffee stop about one third of the Stags refused to start.
BTW yes I have checked diaphragms and replaced needle valves to no avail.
Any ideas how to solve this greatly appreciated. Freezospray solved but is a pain to use and I used about half a can at £9 a time.
